There are a lot of foodie sites out there! Over the years, I’ve collected a list of the food, restaurant and travel blogs and websites, both in Amsterdam and further afield, that I’ve found useful. I hope you do too!

General food - option 2

amsterdam restaurant resources

For a comprehensive, searchable list of all restaurants in Amsterdam, I use Iens.nl (bear in mind all reviews are crowd-sourced and can easily be submitted by the chef, restaurant manager, and all their friends!). For reservations, I use BookDinners. I have occasionally been known to order takeaway (shock horror!) – you can see my list of the best delivery services in Amsterdam here.

cookery schools, workshops and lessons

I often get asked to recommend places to take cookery lessons. I’ve not attended many myself, so this list isn’t entirely tried and tested, but here’s what I’ve gathered over the years: Dun Yong for Asian food; Bee’s Knees Kitchen for raw food; Keizer Culinaire and Taste of Okura for the high-end stuff.

kitchenware and cooking equipment

In terms of physical shops, I love Duikelman in de Pijp and Deksels on the Haarlemmerdijk. However, these days it’s of course easier to order kitchen equipment and crockery online and have it delivered (especially if, like most Amsterdammers, you don’t have a car). In which case, I turn to Cookinglife for both cookware and beautiful dishes on which to serve your creations, and to Woldring for stunning crockery, cutlery and glasses (they specialise in porcelain).

amsterdam food blogs

DutchGrub has been around about as long as Amsterdam Foodie (we are the old-timers!). I also love Vegetarian Duck (for being hilariously quirky and dry), The Coffeevine (for their excellent recommendations for coffee shops – by which I mean shops that sell coffee, not marijuana), and About.com’s Dutch Food page (is it really a blog? I don’t know, but it feels like one).

Big Food Bloggers - option 3

amsterdam info

For general city tips and listings/events info, check out Iamsterdam, Amsterdam Mag, and Spotted by Locals. My favourite Amsterdam non-food bloggers are Awesome Amsterdam, Stuff Dutch People Like, Amsterdamian and Dutchified (technically a vlogger).

For Dutch news in English, read DutchNews.nl (you can subscribe to a handy daily newsletter from them too) and NL Times. For expats living in the Netherlands, there are plenty of expat/international events going on – take a look at Expatica NL, IamExpat and AngloInfo. For those brave souls wishing to learn Dutch, go talk to my friend Wessel at LearnDutch.com.

For hotels and other accommodation, I generally point people in the direction of Booking.com or Airbnb as I’ve never stayed in a hotel, hostel or B&B in my life in Amsterdam!

Amsterdam info - option 1

the big food bloggers

These are the guys who probably charge €1000 just to turn on their laptop in the morning! I love them for inspiration – and aspiration, for that matter… Be awed by Chocolate & Zucchini, David Lebovitz, Cannelle et Vanille, Sprouted Kitchen, Delicious Days, Eat Like a Girl, Orangette and Joy of Baking.

Big Food Bloggers - option 2

general food and recipe resources

I spend my life on the BBC Food site (their recipe search engine is second to none). I also find the UK website Eat the Seasons very useful (probably only if you live in northern Europe, though) and the Dutch site ZTRDG for seasonal, local eating. For general recipe browsing, Epicurious, CHOW, Allrecipes and good old Jamie Oliver are all safe bets.
